This Thursday April 16th at 6:30 p.m. EDT, Soccer is a Kick in the Grass, North America's longest running soccer radio show, begins its 16th season on the air. The show can be heard locally on News Power 1040, WYSL-AM and live on the Web here on soccerisakickinthegrass.com and at www.wysl1040.com.
The special guest on Thursday’s show is the captain of the 2008 MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew, Frankie Hejduk. Hejduk scored the 3rd and final goal for the Crew in their 3-1 title win over the New York Red Bulls in the 2008 MLS Cup Final on November 23, 2008. Hejduk also is a regular starter for the US Men’s National team and was the Man of the Match with a goal and an assist in the 2-2 draw between the US and Host El Salvador in a World Cup qualifying contest held March 28, 2009. In 1996 and 1997, Hejduk was a member of the now defunct Tampa Bay Mutiny of MLS and played the entire match in two US Open Cup contests against the Rochester Rhinos at Frontier Field, a 4-3 Rhinos OT win on September 7. 1996 and a 1-0 Tampa Bay victory on August 1, 2007.
Hosts Joe “Red Card” Sirianni, Andrew Battisti and “Mr. Zero” Dick Howard will also welcome to the show Rochester Rhinos owner Rob Clark to discuss the naming rights for Rhinos Stadium to be announced Thursday afternoon and the Senior Director of the USL First Division, former Rhinos’ owner Chris Economides.
